Brush Only the Teeth You Want to Keep! |
Dental Care |
| |
| Eating
foods that are high in sugars and starches can lead to the destruction
of the protective layer around the tooth called enamel. Bacteria
that live in the mouth thrive on foods such as hard candy, chocolate,
soda, cake, etc. When these foods are left on teeth these
bacteria produce acids which destroy the enamel. To prevent
tooth decay follow these simple steps: |
| |
|
1. Brush at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. |
2. Clean between your teeth using dental floss.
 |
|
3. Limit the amount of sweets you eat in your diet. |
|
4. Use supplemental fluoride treatments. |
|
5. Visit Drs. Trunnell, McConaughy or Mahasek for professional
cleanings and oral examinations. |

| Tips
for Sensitive Teeth |
| Millions of
people unnecessarily endure the sharp pain of hypersensitivity.
Pain is caused when the dentin, an underlying layer of the
tooth, becomes exposed. This can happen at the gum line as
well as the chewing surface of the tooth. Brushing
incorrectly, gum disease, or unconsciously clenching/grinding
your teeth can lead to hypersensitivity. Choosing a new
toothbrush, brushing in a circular pattern, or using a
toothpaste for sensitive teeth could help alleviate the problem.
Medications are available that when applied to sensitive areas provide
more permanent relief. If pain still continues come see us. |

Grinding Your Teeth |
| Bruxism is the unconscious
grinding of your teeth or clenching of your jaws. Some people
grind their teeth in their sleep or during times of high stress.
It can also be caused by abnormal bite or malocclusion of crooked teeth.
Symptoms of Bruxism may include sore jaws, or extreme muscle pain that
mimics a toothache. Left
untreated it can lead to expensive fractures in your teeth. We have
multiple treatments for Bruxism. Don't take it out on your teeth!

Your Baby's Teeth |
| |
| Your
Baby's Teeth |
| Developing strong teeth at
an early age helps young children to chew their food, speak correctly,
and avoid alignment problems later in life. Losing a tooth too
early may cause crowding later in life. A baby tooth's most
important job is to hold space open for future permanent teeth. If your
child has lost a tooth too early come see us to prevent future
problems. Sometimes the permanent front teeth will erupt behind
baby teeth. If this happens call to have the baby teeth removed
in a timely manner so permanent teeth can move into normal position.
Only Sharks get 2 new rows of teeth every time they lose one. |

| Baby
Bottle Tooth Decay |
| Babies are not exempt from
the hazards of tooth decay. Baby Bottle Tooth Decay puts the
baby's upper front teeth at the most risk. Sweetened
liquids such as formula, milk, and fruit juice should not be left
clinging to an infant's teeth for long periods of time. Bacteria
thrive on these sugars and produce acids that attack the fragile
enamel long after bottle is finished.. To avoid Baby Bottle Tooth
Decay follow these simple steps: |
| |
Do not let your child fall asleep with
a bottle of milk or juice. Babies and young children will
enjoy a bottle of water during the night. |
Wipe baby's gums with a clean gauze or
soft wash cloth after feeding. This early habit helps with
brushing later. |
Carefully begin brushing with the 1st tooth showing.
It makes a great "game" for your child. |
Clean gums in areas that remain toothless. |
Use clean pacifiers, do not dip in sweetened liquid. |
Avoid filling bottles with sugar water or soft drinks
since a child may sip continually throughout the night. |
If your water supply does not contain fluoride, ask us about
alternative treatments. We can provide water tests to determine
the presence of naturally occurring fluoride in your area. |
Start dental visits as early as child's
1st birthday if you see any questionable areas or concerns Make regular
visits! |
If you think your child has a dental problem come see us immediately!
We feel there is nothing worse than a child in chronic or acute
pain. |
